Berry trifle is the perfect dessert for Memorial Day or 4th of July. Layers of angel food cake, fresh berries and whipped cream is the easiest way to celebrate the holidays.
It’s hard to believe that we’re almost to the end of May, which means Memorial Day!
Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day are probably some of my favorite holidays. Mainly because they’re summer holidays, and boating season revolves around all three of these.
I really love Memorial Day because it’s that kick off to summer and to the boating season. Everyone is in a great mood, and just so ready for {consistently} nice weather.
These summer holidays also usually mean grilling and parties with friends, family and neighbors.
While most people are concerned with the grilled meats and side dishes, I’m most concerned with the dessert {of course}.
That’s where this beautiful berry trifle comes into play. It’s insanely easy to put together {like 10 minutes}, and only requires 4 simple ingredients. No turning on your oven, or worrying about the list ingredients you have to pick up.
If you’re looking for an easy dessert to throw together last minute, this one is definitely for you!
How to make a Berry Trifle
Four simple ingredients
Like I mentioned, this is probably one of the easiest desserts you could ever put together.
It requires just four simple ingredients:
- Angel Food Cake
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Cool Whip {or whipped cream}
I am all for using a store-bought angel food cake for the sake of this dessert. Leave all that egg white whipping to the bakery, and just pluck a pre-made angel food cake off the shelf.
While you’re at the store, pick up a package of fresh strawberries and blueberries.
I think summer-time is also my favorite season because it provides us with gorgeous and flavorful produce that’s not seen during the winter months here in the Midwest.
Last is that cool, creamy component: whipped cream. If you’re feeling extra ambitious {which I was not}, you can make your own whipped cream. But if you’re like me and tossing this Memorial Day dessert together last minute, then I highly suggest the store-bought version as well.
Berry trifle assembly
The assembly for this berry trifle couldn’t be any easier.
Simply cut the angel food cake into 20 pieces, then cut each slice in half, and then into thirds. This will give you the perfect bite-size piece of cake.
Dice the strawberries, and make sure the Cool Whip has thawed.
All that’s left is to start making your layers.
Start with cake to layer the bottom of your trifle dish. Sprinkle in the strawberries and blueberries, and spread with a hefty dollop of Cool Whip.
Continue repeating that process until you end with the Cool Whip.
Time to party!
Now that your trifle is assembled {in record time}, either cover and place in the fridge until you’re ready to serve, or take it straight out to the patio for friends and family to enjoy.
The tender slices of cake with the bursting fruit juices and creamy Cool Whip make this a dessert you will want to enjoy all summer long.
I gotta know: are you all about the dessert at a cook out, like me? Or are you more into the meats and side dishes? Tell me in the comments below!
