Piece of Cake 017

This could quite possibly be one of the most exciting (at least to date) Piece of Cake posts I’ve ever written.

So maybe we should just dive right in, rather than beating around the bush.

Piece of Cake: Exciting News!

I’ve been waiting a very long time to write this particular post, and it feels like my fingers are flying across the keyboard and just can’t seem to keep up.

WE’RE PREGNANT!!!!

I actually have tears in my eyes as I write this {obviously insanely happy tears}. It’s because we’ve waited quite some time, and I feel like we’ve been through so much to get here. I’m so incredibly grateful for the experiences, and even the heartache, because it’s brought us to this moment.

Our Journey to pregnancy

If we back things up, we started trying in May of 2017. Except we weren’t actually trying, because in November of 2017 we found out I had PCOS {definitely read that post if you’ve never heard of PCOS before}.

I started seeing an OBGYN who tried a few different medications with me that I thought were working, but actually weren’t.

Starting in September of 2018 we started seeing a fertility specialist. We tried five rounds of IUI, which stands for intrauterine insemination. Basically a super timed version of intercourse, without the intercourse.

Each failed attempt was a major heartache. Not only did it mean that we weren’t pregnant, but it also meant we were one step closer to IVF.

As a young, healthy female, this was so hard for me to handle.

After that last failed IUI, we made the huge, huge decision to move forward with IVF.

Successful IVF

Que the countless doctors appointments, a multitude of shots (I could probably count them, but it’s likely into the 100’s), egg retrieval surgery {where I got sick after}, more shots and finally transfer.

We decided to only transfer one egg, which actually has the possibility of splitting into two and becoming twins {no twins in this belly!}.

We’re so, so incredibly grateful and thankful that our very first transfer resulted in a healthy, growing baby.

So here we are. Eleven weeks pregnant today. Every day I think God for this incredible miracle that grows inside of me.
