Piece of Cake 024

I can’t tell you how happy it makes me that as we head into summer it actually feels like summer. That quarantine is starting to be lifted in some areas of our lives. And that we’re able to at least see our family, and some friends now.

It has been a wild ride these past couple of months, and I know this isn’t the end of it. But this past weekend over Memorial Day weekend, we were able to get a glimpse of what’s ahead. Of seeing friends and family. Enjoying nice weather.

So here’s a bit of what’s been happening in the Burken household during the month of May.

Piece of Cake: baby Kennedy

Little miss Kennedy is officially three months old tomorrow. It’s truly hard to believe we already have a three month old on our hands.

And let me tell you, this girl is going to be a mover and shaker! She loves kicking her legs and moving her arms. She’s soo close to rolling over while on her tummy…it won’t be long.

She’s quite the talker too. She loves to coo and make sure you know she’s there.

This past weekend she had her first real trip out on my parent’s boat on the Mississippi. She did such a fantastic job…and of course had to have some of the cutest swim suits around!

She’s a great sleeper and eater as well. Honestly she’s just been such a great baby all around. We have no complaints about this little nugget.

She’ll start daycare in the middle of June, so we’ll have some new reports for next month’s Piece of Cake.

Piece of Cake: body after baby

I’ve been exercising almost daily since my six weeks were up after giving birth.

It’s such a natural thing for me, that not working out was so hard for me during recovery.

But now we’re starting to get into our new normal. I’m still not back to work full time (will be in the middle of June), and my office is still remote. So once I’m back in the office, and Kennedy is going to daycare, we’re going to have to figure out what our new normal will be.

Exercise is such an important part of my day, and for the past couple of years I’ve been working out right away in the morning. I’m hoping to keep this up as it’s always provided me so much more energy during the day.

I’m not working towards a goal weight or anything specific. I’m just working towards feeling strong and healthy, and enjoying taking 20-30 minutes a day for myself.

Piece of Cake: what I’ve been loving

A new membership course that I enrolled in which has me creating the best intuitive eating membership for you! Piece of Mind Squad is such a passion project for me, and it’s something that I want to share with you. This course that I’m part of has me feeling super jazzed about what’s to come with this membership. If you’re wanting to learn more about it, just check it out here.

This swimwear from Target. In the past I didn’t really have to worry much about swimsuit tops. But now I’m thinking about whether or not it’s good for breastfeeding and if it will work for my new set of boobs 😂. This particular swimwear comes in bra sizes, which makes it so much easier to find the right top.

E.L.F Illuminating Putty Primer. O.M.G! This stuff is seriously amazing! If you’re looking for an inexpensive primer that will seriously make your skin and makeup look like it’s been airbrushed, then you need to get this stuff! I never really believed that much in primer because it was yet another step in putting on makeup, but this is soo worth the one additional step.

Piece of Cake: what you’ve been loving

There are a few recipes and posts that always pop to the top, but here are some others you’re still loving this month.

Gluten free rhubarb cheesecake bars. Now that we’re getting into the heart of rhubarb season, it’s no wonder you all are loving on one of my favorite summer bars!

Healthy-ish puppy chow. If you’ve never had puppy chow, you’re totally missing out! And if you have, then you should try this slightly healthier version I concocted when snacking was at an all-time high.

Mango coconut granola. Seeing this one pop up as a recipe you’ve all been loving makes me think I need to make this again. It’s sweet, but not too sweet, and has all the flavors of summer busting out of it. It’s definitely a must-make for this summer.

Piece of Cake wrap up

Overall the month of May has been pretty great. I’m easing back into work, and figuring out what our new normal is with a baby.

Be on the lookout during June for some great upcoming posts that I think you’re going to love.
