Summer is a great time of the year. The sun is out, the days are longer, and there are so many more activities to do. The summer is also an excellent time to pursue your fitness goals and get in great shape. With all of the extra daylight and sunny weather, you will be able to maximize your workouts.
This article will help you do exactly that. It is going to provide tips for making sure that you can achieve the best summer workouts. And, while it isn’t going to give you a step by step workout, it will provide you all the keys you need to design the best summer workouts for you. So take advantage of these six keys to a great summer workout.
Evening Run
There is just something about being outside during a lovely, cool summer evening. The heat of the day is gone, and the summer sky is full of the colors of the evening. Take advantage of this excuse to be outside and go on an evening run. You will be able to enjoy the beautiful weather, and also know that you are getting in better shape.
As you are running through your neighborhood or favorite part of town, you will be so caught up in the weather that you won’t even be thinking about the run. Before you know it, your run will be over, and you will have been able to enjoy a beautiful evening outdoors.
If you are unable to run, go for a walk. Start at the pace that will fit your physical fitness level, and go from there.
Play a Sport
The sun is out, and so should you be. Get outside and play one of your favorite sports. Whether it is on your own, or in a community league, get out and play a sport. And don’t be afraid to try something new. Most sports leagues have a variety of different levels that you can join. So if you are unsure of your skills, join a beginner level league and work your way in.
You don’t have to have a partner either. Using sports as a way to get in better shape on your own is also a great option. It could be doing basketball shooting drills, working on your serve in tennis, or hitting some balls at the driving range. Find something that you enjoy doing, and then take advantage of the summer weather. And, by spending time working on a specific sport, you are going to be that much better if you do decide to play in a local league.
Bodyweight Workouts
A great way to stay fit is by using bodyweight exercises. With a little bit of space, you can get in a whole-body workout without any gym equipment. Whether it is push-ups, sit-ups, or one of the other hundreds of bodyweight exercises, you can get in a workout pretty much any time or anywhere.
A great combination would be to pair a bodyweight workout up with your evening run. You could run for a portion of the workout, do some bodyweight exercises, and then finish with some more running. This type of workout is excellent for parks with open spaces. Some parks even provide walking/running trails with pieces of fitness equipment along the way. Whether in a park or at home, bodyweight exercises are an excellent way to stay fit.
To spice up your bodyweight workout, try adding a few pieces of home exercise equipment as well. With some resistance bands, a yoga mat, or some dumbbells, you can really expand the range of exercises that you can do.
Hit the Gym
Just because it is summertime doesn’t mean the gym is off-limits. As much as you may want to be outside, an indoor workout at the gym can be an excellent option. And depending on where you live, you may need to take advantage of this option as it will be too hot during the day.
If you are unsure of what you should be doing when you do get in the gym, do some research. With so many great fitness websites out there, spend some time doing a little research, and figure out a great workout for you to do at the gym. Before long, you will be an expert in your own right and will have so many fun workouts to do that you won’t even know where to start.
Pool Workouts
If there is one thing that is synonymous with summertime and sun, it is fun in the water. And while the pool is perfect for relaxing, it is also an excellent way to work on your fitness and get in better shape.
Whether it is swimming laps, running in the pool, or some other form of pool workout, the pool is an excellent summer workout tool. And the best part is, once you finish your workout, you can sit back in the pool and relax to your heart’s content.
Family Fun at the Park
If you have kids, this should be one of your go-to moves during the summer. Not only will you be able to get in better shape yourself, but you will be able to get the rest of your family out of the house as well. Whether it is playing a sport, a classic game of tag, or some other kid-friendly activity, the park is excellent for burning off your kid’s pent up energy and for getting in a great workout.
Before you know it, your kids will be the ones asking to go to the park, and you will have all the fitness accountability you can handle.
Best Summer Workouts Conclusion
When you think of summer, it is quickly associated with being active, warm weather, and being outside. Gone are days when it is too cold to go outdoors, or it is already dark at five in the evening. So get rid of all of your excuses and take advantage of this summer.
You don’t have to do every one of these summer workouts either. Find the ones that most appeal to you and which are going to fit your schedule best, and then make a gameplan. Enjoy the summer and all that it has to offer while you get in great shape and continue to improve your health.
